Pacquiao, who supported the ruthless fight of the current Philippine president, Rodrigo Duarte against drug trafficking, decided to distance himself a little from that policy of violent persecution arguing that criminals should also have the opportunity to defend themselves.

The former boxer, who has a large following for his praiseworthy work and having overcome extreme poverty through hard work, established as a banner for his campaign to combat drugs, corruption and poverty.

“I am not thinking of retiring,” he assures. “The people will decide (…) I know that people want change in this country, they want to stop this corruption, they want a prosperous country and they want jobs,” he declared in relation to his candidacy as president.
