AMLO proposes the first woman to assume the position of governor of Banco de México

Andrés Manuel López Obrador made this announcement after the controversy on Tuesday, when it was reported that the candidate had been withdrawn since August ature of Arturo Herrera, the former Secretary of the Treasury and who had been nominated for this position since June.

“Indeed, Arturo Herrera is not going to be proposed for the Bank of Mexico. to send this week the proposal of Victoria Rodríguez Ceja, the Undersecretary of Finance, “he said.

The Tabasco president ruled out that the controversy of the candidacy de Herrera has affected financial indicators such as the exchange rate , which this week has approached 21 Mexican pesos per dollar, its weakest level since March.

With the nomination of Rodríguez Ceja, López Obrador will have proposed two men and two women out of a total of five members that make up the Banxico Governing Board : Jo Nathan Heath, Gerardo Esquivel and Galia Borja.

Victoria Rodríguez Ceja, who could be the first woman to lead Banco de México, has a degree in economics from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Itesm) and has a master’s degree in economics from El Colegio de México (Colmex).

In the Public Administration she has been Undersecretary of Expenditures, advisor to the secretary, General Director of Budget Policy, General Director of Expenditures “A” and Director of Debt in the Ministry of Finance within the Government of Mexico City.
