The most mediatic Mexican athlete of the moment, Saúl “El Canelo” Álvarez has been recognized as the best boxer of the year 2021 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) , organization of which he is the champion super middleweight.
In interview for Fox Sports Mauricio Sulaimán , president of the WBC, declared that Canelo is the right one to keep the award after a year in which he obtained three victories, one of them recent against the American Caleb Plant by TKO (technical knockout).

The boss of the organization explained in the conversation to Fox that although other fights can be recognized, such as the Tyson Fury win over Deonatay Wilder on October 9, 2021.
Canelo’s next fight
The year ends and the 1351780415 will bring different postulates and contenders for some of the titles that hang from Canelo Álvarez’s belt.
At the discretion of Sulaimán a third fight against Genaddy Golovkin, while options David Benavidez, who challenged Canelo, or Jermall Charlo must be discussed.
He also questioned whether Canelo should go up in the category due to the risks that this option implies, since the greater the weight the danger increases.
Comes a 2022 important
Following his convincing victory over Caleb Plant, Álvarez hopes to rest with his family for the remainder of the year before returning to the ring.
The coach of the Mexican boxer, Eddy Reynoso, has not yet offered information on the possible options for Canelo to defend his titles in 2021, the possible rivals are:
- Jarmall Charlo (175 pounds )
- David Benavidez (168 pounds)
- Artur Beterbiev (in case of going up at 175 pounds)
- Dmitry Bivol (in case of going up at 175 pounds)
It is speculated that the fight could be for May 2022.
