Relatives of Hispanics Killed Under Guard Protested Outside San Bernardino County Detention Center

Relatives and friends demanded answers for the death of the Hispanic man Isaiah Hernández Sánchez, which occurred on 15 of September when he was under guard at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino County .

The Hispanic of 29 year old Barstow resident died in hospital after being found unconscious in his cell bunk.

At 10: 30 am of 15 of September, officials from the detention center were alerted to a possible medical emergency in the bedroom area, where they found Hernández Sánchez unconscious and performed the first assists while waiting for the paramedics to arrive.

Hern Andrés Sánchez was under guard since March 4 .

“We have been dealing with this for months and still We have no answers, ”declared Erica Hernández, Isaiah’s sister.

The Hispanic man was in custody accused of making terrorist threats or threatening to commit a crime .

The relatives of Hernández Sánchez considered that Isaiah was neglected and mistreated while he was detained in the prison , operated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Érica Hernández mentioned that her brother was not well, He was diabetic and they did not give him water . He indicated that the last time they spoke to him was the 13 of September, when she begged for help, she could not concentrate and was slurring her words.

Another of Isaiah’s sisters, Emma Hernández, expressed that his brother was not violent nor was he one of the worst criminals; and that even if you were one of the worst criminals, you still have a human being with basic rights.

The lawyer for the Hernández family Sánchez said that was planning to file a lawsuit against the Sheriff’s Department and also against San Bernardino County .

“Our client was deprived of basic necessities to sustain life, including his diabetes medication. It was completely neglected and it is more than an isolated incident, ”said attorney Ed Lyman.

Other recent deaths in the detention center

Local media reported that in October, another Hispanic inmate, Jorge Antonio Díaz Millán, was allegedly Killed by his cellmate in the same West Valley Detention Center.

Other deaths that have been reported at the prison include that of Russell Samuel García, aged 56, who lost his life on 23 after a medical emergency was reported; and on September 7, Brian Albert, 43 was found dead in his cell.

The death of Isaiah Hernández Sánchez is under scrutiny by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Special Investigations Division .
