The early morning of next Friday 19 November we will witness the longest lunar eclipse in almost 600 years. According to NASA this astronomical phenomenon will last 3 hours, from beginning to end, 28 minutes and seconds.
East partial lunar eclipse can be observed throughout the American continent , as well as in some parts of Africa , Asia and Europe. In the United States it will start at 2: 00 hours EDT and in Mexico after 00: 00 hours, downtown time. The maximum point will be at 04: 02 in the US and in Mexico at 2: 02 in the morning.
How to see the partial lunar eclipse?
As the eclipse unfolds, the moon will have different appearances. While it is in twilight you will not be able to see the shadow of the Earth in the natural satellite, but as it approaches the umbra or deep shadow phase, it will begin to darken and turn gray.
As the moon approaches the deepest part of the eclipse it will turn dark red or brown , which is why it is also known as the “Blood Moon”. According to Space.com, the moon will be eclipsed by 97% at the top .
However, the moon will not be completely eclipsed, a part of it will be illuminated by the sun, which is why it is a partial eclipse.
It should be noted that this partial lunar eclipse, which will be the longest in 580 years, according to the Holcomb Observatory in Indiana, it can be seen without artifacts, that is, to enjoy it, just look at the night sky at the indicated hours.
