HOUSTON – Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner was questioned on Tuesday by the media about the deadly tragedy that occurred on Friday during the concert Astroworld Festival where eight people lost their lives and dozens were injured.
Turner in one of his statements said that if the concert had been stopped the situation could “have been worse”.
According to the official authorities of the different emergency teams said that 40 minutes after they began to respond to calls asking for help outside the NRG Park facilities where the concert was held, the main artist, Travis Scott , kept on stage.
Videos circulating on the networks show Scott pausing his presentation several times to point out some people who needed help, but he continued with the concert.
The Houston Fire Department said the event reached an emergency level at about 9: 38 pm Some amateur videos show Scott finishing his performance around 08: 15 pm
In his social networks the rapper maintains that he had no idea of the severity of what was happening in the crowd.
Turner said there was fear that violent riots could break out if the concert had been stopped.
“You have to be very careful when you stop things, especially if you have 50, , ”he said Turner.
“If you stop something abruptly, you run the risk of aggravating the situation and that could be more dangerous so it is somewhat difficult to handle that guy from decisions, “he added.
Turner reported that the investigation is already handled at the criminal level and that the authorities are already in communication with the festival’s promoter, Live Nation.
Some attorneys representing the victims showed up at NRG Park to walk the facility and take notes.
