The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said that the Street robberies have increased , with trends showing that people with high-end jewelry and purses are being targeted.

LAPD said that the robbers have studied their victims and followed them from places near the district of Los Angeles jewelry, nightclubs and upscale restaurants, right down to their homes.

“The target of these thefts has been expensive jewelry, including watches and necklaces, as well as expensive purses, ”LAPD said in its newsletter. “The victims have also been attacked depending on the type of vehicle they drive.”

The suspects have been locating the victims, then following them and committing the robberies when the victim arrives home or at the business, according to a security bulletin published by the department’s Robbery and Homicide Division.

LAPD is asking people to take steps to prevent these thefts, such as being aware of their surroundings, not displaying valuable jewelry and call 911 if they think they are being followed.

These are the recommendations released by LAPD:

  • Watch your surroundings for anything unusual or out of the ordinary before getting out of your car, leaving a restaurant , store, mall or club.
  • Please have beware of displaying high-value properties in public, such as purses, watches and jewelry.
  • Record and report suspicious activity to the police (write descriptions of suspicious vehicle or suspicious persons).
  • If you are driving and think you are being followed, please check the 911. If possible, drive to the nearest police station.
  • If you are being robbed, do not resist thieves, cooperate and comply with their demands. Watch and remember so you can be a good witness.
  • After a robbery, immediately call the police department by dialing 911. Immediately write down everything you can remember about the crime, the suspects, and if you saw a suspicious vehicle.
  • Do not chase or follow the robbery suspect out of his or her workplace or home. Leave the job of catching suspects to the police.
  • These crimes have occurred throughout the city of Los Angeles and in neighboring cities.
