Authorities identified a foster mother who abused a 4-year-old Hispanic boy into a coma in Los Angeles County

Los Angeles County authorities identified Gabriela Casarez as the foster mother who abused 4-year-old Hispanic boy Miguel Francisco Andrés , until leaving him in a coma, at the end of October .

Casarez was arrested for child abuse when she was caring for the minor as a foster mother, assigned by the county Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) .

Detectives from the Office of Special Victims (SVB), Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department , Casarez was arrested on 29 October after an investigation into the physical abuse of Miguel Francisco Andrés the day before, at approximately 4 pm, on the block 14700 of Pioneer Boulevard, in the city of Norwalk .

According to the reports, the child under 4 years of age was transferred from the emergency room due to serious injuries to the face, head and body .

Miguel Francisco Andrés was admitted to the Long Beach Miller Memorial Care in a coma and still in the intensive care unit .

On November 2, the case was filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office , in Norwalk Superior Court.

The District Attorney filed one felony charge of assault on a minor who becomes comatose or paralyzed and two felony charges of child abuse in circumstances or conditions likely to cause serious bodily injury or death.

Presumed guilty in custody

Casarez is in custody with a $ 1.2 million bond s, and will go to court on December 6 at the Norwal Courthouse k.

Doctors reported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department the injuries presented by the minor as a possible case of child abuse and torture .

Miguel Francisco Andrés and his 2-year-old brother were separated in April from their biological mother, María Andrés, 21 years, after a report of domestic violence.

Agree With the lawyer representing the family, the biological mother, a Guatemalan indigenous woman who does not speak Spanish or English, did not find out about her children’s situation until a day after Miguel Francisco was hospitalized.
