Man who recorded viral video of rats in Popeyes' kitchen was fired from his job

The man who recorded viral video of a Popeyes kitchen infested with rats was fired from his job as a chicken delivery man to chain restaurants, as announced on social networks.

At the end of October a Popeyes restaurant in Washington was closed after a video went viral showing its kitchen infested with rats. The video was recorded and shared on TikTok by Ricardo Land who said he was dedicated to delivering raw chicken to all the Popeyes in the DC area.

In the video, Land opens the main door of the restaurant and walks to the kitchen, turns on the lights and shows how large rats that run on the floor, climb the wall and disappear behind a pipe. “Do you still love Popeyes chicken?” Land said, referring to the chain’s famous jingle.

The video that warned people about the Popeyes kitchen problem on 409 8th Street, SE, reached the DC Department of Health . Which led to an inspection and closure two weeks later. That display of the rats in the restaurant led Ricardo Land to lose his job.

“When they demonize you for doing the right thing,” wrote Land on TikTok where he reported that he had been suspended from his job after all the exposure of the case of the rats in the Popeyes franchise .

The former chicken delivery man shared a fundraiser on GoFundMe in which he asks for support while he gets another job. He points out that he has a family of five, he needs to pay rent, food and other expenses to maintain his house.

“I ask you beautiful people to please donate what you can and we will be very grateful from my family to yours. Thank you lovely people for the support on TikTok and I will follow you all as soon as I can, ”Land wrote on GoFundMe.

The video of the rats in Popeyes was published on 11 October on TikTok with the account @blaqazzrick , also went viral on Twitter. Subsequently, the DC Department of Health inspected the restaurant and a closure notice was issued on 28 October warning “imminent dangers to health.”

According to Eat This Not That, Popeyes’ restaurant in Washington is definitely closed . A representative of the chain told them that the franchise agreement with the owner of the infested place had been terminated. “This one restaurant does not reflect our solid standards of food safety and cleanliness at Popeyes.”
