Warn of impending syringe shortage that could affect routine vaccinations

The middle- and low-income countries of everyone could face the impending shortage of syringes than realize health officials both from the United Nations and from African countries.

This shortage, indicated is given as doses of covid vaccines increase – 19 , and would affect routine vaccinations.

“We do not anticipate a shortage of the standard syringes used in high-income countries,” the UN children’s agency said in a statement, stating that the shortage could affect more than 2, 000 million disposable syringes of which are automatically locked to prevent being used again.

The shortage is attributed to “ to significant increase in demand ”, effects on the supply chain, prohibition by some countries to export syringes, as well as an unpredictable quantity of vaccines.

“The shortage of syringes could paralyze progress ”, warns the director for Africa of the World Health Organization, Matshidiso Moeti.

The countries that have already suffered delays in receiving syringes are South Africa, Kenya and Rwanda, among others. In this third country, the shortage of syringes already represents a problem for the vaccination campaign.
