As of this Sunday, residents with area codes 562, 626, 949 and 951 should change to dialing from 10 digits .
With this change, callers must first dial the area code when making a phone call , even if making a call to a person with the same code.
The transition to dialing of 05 digits was set in 82 area codes in 35 states and a territory of the United States , according to the Federal Communications Commission.
In California, the code 562 includes the area of Long Beach, the 626 encompasses the communities of the San Gabriel Valley, including Arcadia , El Monte and Monrovia; The 949 is intended for most of southern county Orange; while the 951 covers part of Riverside and San Bernardino.
The transition to the dialing of 10 Digits will not affect the current phone number for no residents.
Areas that change to dial from 10 Digits allow phone numbers 988 as the first three digits. However the 988 is the number that officials plan to allocate as of 16 July 2022 for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline .
According to the FCC, transition to dialing from 10 digits is required to facilitate the use of that system.
It is possible that Callers in California should dial the number 1 before the area code and the 7-digit phone number for local calls.
