A earthquake of magnitude 4.9 that has shaken the La Palma island in the Canary Islands and has generated a strong shake.

This has been the largest earthquake recorded since the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted in the island La Palma. And in the volcano itself there has been the collapse of part of the main cone , as reported by the Volcanological Institute of Canarias (INVOLCAN).

The following video managed to capture the collapse of the main cone of the Cumbre Vieja volcano:

Large changes were also recorded in the secondary cone of the volcano , where lava overflows have increased.

The seismograph of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) Itahiza Domínguez said that from the observation point of Tajuya they have verified that there is emission of lava flows further west of the secondary cone, which in the last hours has suffered several lava overflows. “The dynamics are changing and it will be necessary to evaluate with more data throughout the day,” Domínguez pointed out on his Twitter account.

The main wash that reached the La Laguna neighborhood is stopped, but it is receiving “a lot of contribution” of lava in its back part, as confirmed by the thermal imaging cameras, so in the next few hours will be defined what will be the direction that will take on his way to the sea.

The latest update of the Copernicus system is that the volcanic eruption has left 889 devastated hectares and 2, 129 Destroyed buildings.

The president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez , arrived on Saturday to the island, on his fifth visit, and has announced a budget modification to the Contingency Fund to accelerate aid to those affected by the eruption of the La Palma volcano , especially in the areas of employment, agriculture and fishing.

President Sánchez reiterated the commitment of the government of Spain with the islanders and with the future of La Palma, a future that, he said, will be “of hope” once the eruption that this Sunday celebrates five weeks ends.
