Mexican actor Javier Ruán dies at 81

The Mexican actor Javier Ruán , born in Nahuatzen, Michoacán, passed away on Monday afternoon 11 October at 81 years of age due to a myocardial infarction.

So far no further details have been released by relatives or friends.

With more than 60 years of artistic career, Javier Ruán worked in the world of television, radio soap operas, cinema, theater and literature.

He began his artistic career at 17 years old in the soap opera ‘Angustia del Pasado’, followed by resounding successes in ‘Rina’, ‘Simply María’, ‘Ana del Aire’, ‘Al Final del Arcoíris’,’ Wild Heart ‘and especially stood out in the historical plots’ Senda de Gloria’ and ‘La Torcha Encendida’.

As a screenwriter, he was awarded a TVyNovelas Award in 1997, as Best Original Story of ‘Pueblo Chico, Infierno Grande’, a plot that he developed in his native Michoacán.

In cinema, he collaborated in more than 20 films, among which Pedro Páramo and Los Marcados stand out, the latter, which got him an Ariel nomination by the Academy of Cinematographic Sciences and Arts in 1971 for Best Male Co-performance.

In addition, he wrote books, including his autobiography under the title of “From prodigal son to favorite son” , with which he celebrated his 78 years of life.

Among his recognitions, the actor received the Eduardo Arozamena medal for 46 years of uninterrupted artistic career by the National Association of Actors (ANDA) ; in addition to the Olmec Head awarded by the Tabasco Cultural Platform for 46 years of career.

For its part, the Ministry of Culture of the State of Michoacán, paid tribute to him in 2005 for his artistic career and he was named Favorite Son, a distinction that was made for the first time to a Nahuatzense.
