The pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson applied to the Drug Administration and Food (FDA) emergency approval of your dose of COVID booster vaccine – 19 for people over 18 years, the multinational company announced Tuesday.

Johnson & Johnson also presented recent data from a late-stage trial indicating that the second dose of vaccine boosted protection against disease COVID – 19 from moderate to severe to 94% in the United States and reported a “substantial increase in immune response ”when the booster vaccine was administered six months after the initial vaccine dose.

Additional data on COVID booster shot – 19 of Johnson & Johnson suggest a nine-fold increase in antibody levels after the administration of the boost, increasing up to twelve times four weeks later, and the injection was reported to be generally well tolerated.

“Our clinical program has discovered that a booster of our COVID vaccine – 19 increases protection levels for those who have received our single injection vaccine by 94%. We look forward to our discussions with the FDA and other health authorities to support their decisions regarding boosts, ”said Dr. Mathai Ma mmen , Global Head of Research and Development for Janssen at Johnson & Johnson.

One of the main selling points of the J&J vaccine is that it is a single dose , compared to the regimen of two doses of Moderna and Pfizer. Mammen underlined: “We continue to recognize that a single injection COVID – 19 vaccine that provides a robust and long-lasting protection remains a crucial component in vaccinating the world’s population. ”

Immune and antibody responses are strong throughout the eight months after Johnson & Johnson’s primary vaccination, the company reported last month.

Johnson & Johnson is the third drug manufacturer to submit a booster vaccine authorization application, after Moderna and Pfizer.

More than 15 millions of Americans have received the COVID vaccine – 19 by Johnson & Johnson , which is given in a single dose, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
