Congruent with current discussions about the fight against machismo in society, the new Mexican Netflix series “ The revenge of the Juanas ”promises not only to show real women, but to leave teachings mainly aimed at men.
“ One of us says in the series: ‘¿en when will men take responsibility for what they do? ‘ and not only refers to having a child, but to being responsible for their actions, knowing that there are good and bad consequences of actions “, Says its protagonist to Efe Zuria Vega .
A renewed version of the popular Colombian telenovela “Las Juanas”, written by Bernardo Romero on 1997, returns to the screens this time reinterpreted by her daughter, the screenwriter Jimena Romero , who promises to take the story to another level.
“Las Juanas” has had several adaptations throughout his story. In the 2004, TV Azteca made the first Mexican adaptation under the same name. RCN did it again in Colombia in 2007 as “The Mark of Desire.” Mexico had a second version of the telenovela under the name “Hijas de la Luna” made by Televisa.
“ The idea was to tell it in another way and basically if you think about it, the story begins with the mystery of five women who do not know who their father is, that led me immediately to think about the suspense “, says Romero.
The idea of transforming the iconic story of his father into a darker story went around the head of Jimena since she started working with him, and despite the fact that he proposed it several times, while Bernardo lived they did not have the opportunity to remake it.
Jimena and Bernardo are responsible for very important telenovela titles, among them “Mirada de mujer” (1997), a work that had a very important impact due to its openness to taboo topics in society, such as the love of an older woman with a young man.
“ My father was a deeply feminist man and that is felt in his work and in the original version of ‘Las Juanas’, They were always strong characters, only now I brought them to the present day so that they could see real women “, highlights the creator, who knows that her father would be proud of the work he did.
The plot of the story closely follows five women who seem to have nothing in common until they realize they share the same name and a fish-shaped birthmark on the buttock, makes them suspiciously sisters.
None of them know their father and most of their mothers are off their radar, so they will have to decipher the mystery of its origin with many obstacles.
In addition to Zuria Vega, the series, which will premiere on October 6, stars the Colombian actress Juana Arias and the Mexican women Renata Notni , Sofia Engberg and Oka Giner .
In the Zuria series it is a “ rebellious stripper ”, Juana is a singer, Renata an investigative journalist, Sofía a psychic and Oka a novice, this diversity of women is something that they embrace and value.
The fact that there are five protagonists is for the actresses a sample of the importance of supporting each other between women when working in any area of life.
“ my fellow spoke to me and asked me the mean, how are doing ?, how is a leading share with four women ?, and the truth is that from day one there was a very beautiful connection and that goes beyond the screen “, says Notni, who calls her fellow sisters, after the project.
The five actresses assure that the work will surprise the public. ico and warn the fans of the many previous versions, that they will find a fresh work and different from the one they already know.
