The government of Joe Biden announced that he will cancel again “in the coming weeks” the immigration program implemented by former President Donald Trump (2017 – 2021) “Remain in Mexico” (MPP, in English) after that Justice restored him in August.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in charge of immigration policy, explained that when it issues a new memorandum to suspend the program, “is intended to address the concerns raised by the courts regarding the previous memorandum.”

Joe Biden suspended enrollment in that program as soon as he came to power in January, promoted in 2019 by the Government of its predecessor and for which the United States sent more than 54, 000 illegal immigrants who crossed the border to wait for months in Mexico for their appointments before immigration judges.

In February, the Government of Joe Biden began allowing migrants to enter the United States with active cases under the MPP and in June, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) put an end to the program for good, highly criticized by human rights organizations.

However, last month a federal judge from Texas ordered the White House to restored the controversial program, which forced the Indocum

asylum seekers at the southern border of the United States to wait in the neighboring country for their petitions will be processed.

Federal Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk opined that the order by which the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, officially terminated the program in June, violated federal administrative law and did not take into account the “benefits” of the program, citing its alleged deterrent effect among potential migrants.

The magistrate ordered Joe Biden’s government to restore the program at least until he finds a way to “rescind it. legally ”, and until the Executive has the necessary capacity to detain all asylum seekers who, in the absence of such policy, they can enter the US

The Department of Homeland Security assured in its statement on Wednesday that the program will remain active as long as the order of the judge, to which you have appealed, is also still standing.
