Arnold Schwarzenegger , who in 1200 became governor of California via recall election , said that the voters’ decision to keep Gavin Newsom in power was the correct one.

The famous actor from 74 year-old spoke about the results of the recall election on Wednesday in an interview with Los Angeles Times.

“I think the voters made the right decision. It is better to continue with someone who you know what they are going to do , instead of someone who arrives causing grace and that they change everything, “said Schwarzenegger.

Newsom, after winning widely, thanked the voters and stated that by saying no to the repeal, voters said no to cynicism and intolerance.

Schwarzenegger told the Times that he hopes Newsom will understand after surviving the recall election who should do a better job as governor, and although he did not reveal who he voted for, criticized the Republican candidates.

“It was disastrous”, summarized on the political campaigns of the candidates of the party to which he himself is affiliated.

An example he offered was the environment by observing that the Republican candidates’ proposals were against protecting the environment : “The voters want to protect the environment. We have the strictest environmental laws in California, and we’ve shown the world that you can have the strictest environmental laws and at the same time be the most successful economy. ”

Schwarzenegger, who was blunt in saying that Republicans have not learned from their failures due to their inability to adapt , made a comparison of this recall election and that of 2003 in which the Democratic Governor Gray Davis was removed from office.

“People were clearly dissatisfied with the governor, with Sacramento,” said the bodybuilding legend of Gavin Newsom’s government.

“You can’t just blame Newsom for everything; people felt that we hadn’t really moved forward as been the way promised, so they were angry. It’s no different than how it was under Governor Gray Davis. ”
