Gavin Newsom closes campaign with Joe Biden at his side; this Tuesday is the decisive day in the recall election

Gavin Newsom closed his campaign to try to avoid being revoked as Governor of California with an event in Long Beach accompanied by President Joe Biden on Monday night.

The so-called recall election for decide whether Newsom’s governorship continues or looks terminated has this 22 September its decisive day, although millions of Californians, including the 26% of Latinos , have already voted early in an election that many analysts have called crucial not just for the state, but for the country.

After Newsom received in recent days the support of Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Barack Obama and other high-profile politicians, the governor had Biden by his side in Long Beach City College .

Biden alluded to Larry Elder, the Republican candidate who has emerged as Newsom’s most serious adversary in the recall election .

“Can you imagine him as governor of this state?” Biden told the audience. “You can’t let that happen. There is too much at stake. ”

The President said that Elder is “the clone of Donald Trump” , adding: The eyes of the nation are on California. Because the decision you are about to make will not only have a huge impact on California; will resonate around the nation. And honestly, and I’m not kidding, around the world. ”

Newsom, who in a recent survey had a comfortable lead of 22 points , referred to the shadow of Trump in his speech in Long Beach.

“We could have defeated Donald Trump, but we have not defeated ‘Trumpism’ . ‘Trumpism’ is still on the ballot in California and that’s why it’s so important not just to all of us here, 40 millions of Americans in the strongest and most populous state in the nation.

“But also to send a message across the United States that ‘Trumpism’ has no place here, and ‘Trumpism’ will be defeated throughout the United States because we are better than that. ”

This Tuesday election day in California will be held from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
