“At this stage, we were in double matchdays, so on Wednesday we played against Pachuca and then on the weekend we were going to play Puebla at home. So we decided that I was going to the bench against Puebla because the call for the National Team was the following Thursday or Friday and my name was not there. We played against Puebla, we won 3-2, I entered 15 or 20 minutes, I was not injured, but I was not one hundred percent. I thought I needed to recover, I need to go to the National Team. ”

He also confessed that at that time he was crying since he was not yet guaranteed a place with the Mexico national team and he did not have enough minutes to show his worth.

“When I got in the car, I was crying, thinking: ‘what’s going to happen? I have my second call next week and I want to win a place.

Hernández also recalled how he received, from his father’s mouth, and also through tears, the news that Manchester United were interested in him.

“I was in the front seat crying and I only imagined in my football mind, what’s going to happen and how am I going to recover and stuff like that and then my dad gives me a card that says, ‘Jim Lawlor (United scout)’, but he’s got the Manchester United crest, and I was like, ‘okay, what do you want?’, and didn’t realize it was actually Manchester United . And my dad starts crying. Seeing that, it was like ‘wow,’ Chicharito commented.
