At the minute 37 ′ of the first half between Mexico and Costa Rica , Alexis Vega suffered a tackle that cost him his stay in the match. The Mexican attacker received a foul from Francisco Calvo in which he bent his ankle, and from the pain, he was substituted.
Calvo swept from behind , hitting the Chivas de Guadalajara player’s right ankle. The blow was at grass level, so the immediate contact with the grass also hurt Vega.
Alexis Vega could not get up after the sweep . Four minutes later he was replaced by Orbelín Pineda.
The entry was sanctioned with yellow, although it could have been a direct red.
