Four people died Thursday when a commercial plane crashed into a building near an airport in Connecticut, shortly after takeoff, authorities said.

Emergency crews were working to evacuate the immediate area of ​​the plane crash around the Trumpf Inc. building on Hyde Road in Farmington, about 10 miles west of Hartford, Farmington police said in a tweet.

The building is located near Robertson Airport in Plainville, from where police said the plane had taken off, according to Fox News.

Farmington police said two pilots and two passengers were on the plane when it crashed.

Lt. Tim McKenzie of the Farmington told reporters at the scene that authorities received calls about the plane crash just before 10 am and that the first officer to arrive at the scene of the accident witnessed the flames that completely engulfed the plane and a corner of the exterior of the building.

Firefighters worked to put out the fire for about 30 minutes. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

The plane, a Cessna Citation 560 X, was heading to the Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, North Carolina, with four people on board, said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA

McKenzie said witnesses reported that the plane appeared to experience problems shortly after takeoff. He said that the plane hit the ground, before hitting the side of the building where it stopped.

McKenzie said that no employee working inside the Trumpf Inc. building reported injuries immediately after the accident, and described the leak of employees as “miraculous.”

“They’ve seen the photos so far and according to witnesses, they said it was pretty intense,” he said.

McKenzie said everyone inside the Trumpf building was counted and no one was injured in the plane crash.

Police reported that an investigation into the accident was in the early stages.
