Student killed in North Carolina school shooting, gunman hunted

A student was fatally injured in a shooting at a high school in the North Carolina city of Winston-Salem on Wednesday, and authorities are “actively searching for the suspect,” authorities said.

The shooting occurred at Mount Tabor High School on the northwest side of town, the Sheriff’s Office said. from Forsyth County on Twitter.

Police officers and officers were dispatched to the place at 19: 07 pm ET., Said Winston-Salem Police Department Chief Catrina Thompson at a press conference, quoted by CNN .

“A student was located with a gunshot wound,” Thompson said, struggling to contain the tears. “First responders began taking action to save lives and the injured student was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center , where she succumbed to her injuries. ”

She said that The suspect, believed to be a student at the school, has yet to be caught.

After the school shooting , The students were transported to a Harris Teeter grocery store in Whitaker Square to reunite with their parents, city officials and the sheriff’s office said on Twitter.

The sheriff’s office had previously designated a different site.

Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement that has been informed of the shooting in school and is ready to provide the necessary support. “We must work to ensure the safety of students and educators, quickly stop the shooter, and keep weapons off school grounds,” he said.

The shooting was the second to occur at a North Carolina high school this week. The other shooting took place in the city of Wilmington , where a New Hanover High School student was shot causing injuries, on Monday.

The Mount Tabor High School had more than 1, 400 students in the school year 1200 – 20 , based on the most recent data available from the US Department of Education’s statistics center, according to CNN.
