According to data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) until 20 August existed 10. 1 million raw taxpayer tax returns .

During the same month almost 20 million, a sign that could indicate that the delays could come to an end this September.

What is causing the tax refund delays?

In a normal season the IRS sends refunds within three weeks after a taxpayer files their tax return.

A report from the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO ) stated that the IRS does not communicate enough taxpayers the origin of the delays in tax refunds .

It is September and still millions of taxpayers have not received their refund. According to the IRS they have been processed about 135. 8 million declarations so far this year 2021 .

The delay has been aggravated by the inability of people to go to work and also because the IRS is in charge of distributing different types of financial aid to Americans that have been approved by Congress.

As if this were not enough, a large number of the declarations have to be read by hand , which causes the documents to be reviewed at a slower speed.
