On Wednesday night heavy rains and floods were recorded throughout New York City.
Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency in New York due to the immense amounts of rain that the remnants of Hurricane Ida have dropped.
Hours earlier, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued five alerts for Rainfall from West Philadelphia to New York, caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida that continue to pass through the United States.
“I declare a state of emergency in New York City tonight. We are enduring a historic weather event tonight with record city-wide rains, brutal flooding and dangerous conditions on our roads, ”the mayor wrote on his official Twitter account.

In addition, warned that the electric service was also affected by the extreme weather situation , which left more than 5, 00 0 people without electricity.

The National Meteorological Service said that had recorded rainfall rates of at least three to five inches in an hour in Northeast New Jersey and parts of New York City , which was under a flash flood emergency for the first time.
Internet users on social networks shared images of the consequences of the rains. Even the New York Subway was seriously flooded , but had been closed hours before.

Not only the streets and the Metro have been affected by sudden rainfall in the state. Some citizens recorded the moment when water entered their homes, flooding them.

“If you’re thinking of going out, don’t do it. Stay away from the subway. Stay off the roads. Don’t drive into these troubled waters and let emergency services do their job, “concluded Mayor Bill de Blasio.
New York City’s official emergency notification system notified that due to severe weather, there is a travel ban in effect from now until 5: 00 am on September 2 . All non-emergency vehicles must be off the streets and highways of New York City.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced a state of emergency in their respective states in response to the storm.
