California’s economy is slowly picking up and has already regained nearly a million jobs over the past year. However, about three million Californians still collect some type of unemployment insurance , which for about two million of them, the benefits for the pandemic will come to an end this coming September 4 .
The Employment Development Department (EDD) is warning the public to be prepared. Millions of people who lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic are about to lose their benefits as well.
In the entity, about three million people have some type of unemployment insurance but those who enjoy federal benefits of $ 300 weekly dollars will stop receiving them at the end of this week .
This benefit also includes independent workers, contractors, and industrial workers who received federal insurance.
The program known as Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) will also expire . This allowed to extend the benefits up to weeks.
Even though from this September 1 Most Californians Eligible for the Second Stimulus Check Will Begin Receiving Support , the EDD has petitioned those still remaining unemployed to look for a job.
Although the economy begins to recover after the pendemic, many businesses closed and several workers are still worried about contracting illness during return to work .
California workers reported 67, 300 requested Unemployment benefit rates during the week ending 21 August , which represents an increase of 2, 500 compared to the previous week , as reported by the United States Department of Labor.
Throughout the country, workers presented 353, 000 requests which represents an increase of 4, 000 requests compared to the previous week .
