Like the Ferrari 410 Superamerica 1959, destined for the RM Sotheby’s auction to be held in the middle of this month in the city of Monterey California , a Ferrari 268 Fantuzzi SP 1962 will be offered in the same event waiting to reach a figure according to its value: between $ 8 and $ 10 millions. This sports car is the only survivor of a small production of six copies that was carried out in the decade of the years 60 and stands out for having been introduced at Le Mans, one of the most challenging race circuits in the world. world. Its design became a benchmark for Ferrari Formula 1 cars due to the arrangement of its engine at the rear.
This engine —A 2.4-liter V6 with double overhead camshaft — is credited to Vittorio Jano and Dino Ferrari , who designed and assembled it on the first two sister prototypes presented to the press at 1961. But beyond the engine, this car impressed the world with its Fantuzzi spider body with low-rise windshield and curved fenders accompanied by a rear spoiler. At the front, the car has a double grille that favors its aerodynamics by allowing air to pass through. Its particular silhouette is certified by Ferrari Classiche as “shark nose” and also influenced to make it part of the Mas di Clos collection by Pierra Bardinon for almost 30 years.
This incredible vehicle, which has only had two private owners since 1969, was also exhibited at the Galleria Ferrari in Maranello, Italy and has undergone few restorations: the most important was carried out in 1970 to restore your nose and replace the exhaust with a factory-designed one. The restoration was done by Pierre Bardinon de Aubusson, one of the most important Ferrari collectors who acquired it, a year earlier, for his personal museum. According to his records, it is the one he still holds, making this car an invaluable gem.
