Cuba received a new shipment of humanitarian aid sent by the Government of Mexico to cooperate in confronting the worst outbreak of the COVID pandemic – 19 and the shortage of food and basic products on the island.
The ship Papaloapan, of the Mexican Navy, docked this Sunday in the port of La Havana with a batch of 1, 283 tons composed of disposable medical supplies, masks, oxygen tanks, disinfectant gel and food, according to a report by the state Cuban News Agency (ACN).
Last Friday the first ship arrived with donations sent by the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador , and yesterday an Air Force plane from that country brought a load of medical supplies to support the fight against the third wave of the coronavirus that hits the island.
The ambassador of Mexico in Havana, Miguel Díaz Reynoso, affirmed that this aid is part of “ the permanent search for collaboration between two sister nations, united by historical ties. ”
In receiving the Mexican donation, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, Ana Teresita González, said that it is the result of “the long history of solidarity between both countries” and will contribute to face the complex epidemiological situation and the effects of the US economic embargo
In the last week, Cuba has also received shipments of humanitarian aid sent by the Governments of Russia, Bolivia and China, and other allied nations of the island such as Vietnam and Nicaragua have announced their contributions .
Health authorities and experts consider that this rebound has among its causes the so-called “pandemic fatigue” with the consequent drop in risk perception, street crowds in queues due to food shortages or the circulation of new variants such as the delta, considered more transmissible and lethal.
