Immigrant defense organizations have asked the president’s government Joe Biden finish with the so-called Title 42, which allows the expedited expulsion of immigrants under the argument of a health emergency due to the pandemic of COVID – 19 .

Added to those claims is a lawsuit that the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is reviving in federal court in Washington, DC, confirmed The Hill.

“ We gave the Biden Administration more than enough time to fix any issues left by the Trump Administration, but they have left us no choice but to go back to court, ”the ACLU attorney said in a statement, Lee Gelernt. “The lives of families are in play”.

When the COVID pandemic started – 19, the former president Donald Trump implemented that rule of the United States Code, which allows the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) prohibit entry of foreigners to the country for health reasons .

This allows any customs official, which includes Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents, to apply the measure, that is, to detain immigrants and process them for their immediate expulsion.

The order applies from 20 March 2020 and its discretion allowed the government to the Biden Administration accept migrant children is whose arrival increased at the border at the beginning of the year, but maintained the measure for adults and families.

Until last June, CBP reported that has detained and expelled more than 800, 185 immigrants under Title 42 .

The order applies both at the border with Mexico as with Canada, although the former is where most of the actions of the law are concentrated.
