A young Hispanic from South Los Angeles was awarded a full scholarship to study medicine.
Alexis Alemán , a student at cal State Northridge, was selected by the annual program of the non-profit organization LA Care Health Plan .

The young man, son of Mexican immigrants , was born the concern to become a doctor Inspired by the work carried out by health bodies during the current COVID pandemic – 19 .
Alemán thought that his dream could not come true due to the high economic cost that the medical degree registration represents and not wanting to get into debt with hundreds of thousands of dollars for his studies.
The young Hispanic will study at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science , as one of the eight students benefited this year by the program.

On its website, the educational institution indicates that the 90 % of its total enrollment is comprised of minority students, while the Hispanic student population is 10%, above the national average, which is 10% .
“My dream is to be a medical doctor and work in the community where I am, the south of Los Angeles ”, expressed Alemán.
The young Hispanic is part of the fourth generation of students benefiting from the Elevating the Safety Net scholarship .
“Each of our LA Care Scholars 2021 expressed a desire to work in underserved communities, and the scholarships mean they won’t have to carry hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt that could lead to a practice outside the safety net, “said John Baackes, CEO of LA Care, in a release.
