Woman found stabbed to death in Piedmont Park, Atlanta

A woman and her dog were found dead some 100 yards within the street entrance 10 from Park Street on Charles Allen Drive, shortly after 1: 00 am, reported The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The woman was stabbed “several times”, according to the Atlanta police. Officers identified the victim as Katherine Janness, of 40 years, resident of Atlanta.

Authorities did not say how the dog was killed, but Deputy Police Chief Charles Hampton described the scene as “gruesome.”

The researchers worked at night to collect evidence of the stabbing murder occurred in Piedmont Park , but they were hampered by darkness, Hampton told Channel 2 Action News .

At dawn, they headed to door to door, asking the neighbors, and collected the images from surveillance cameras that could help them to follow steps of the woman stabbed to death and to identify a motive in her death.

The woman was seen on camera walking her dog across the rainbow crossing on the street 10 and Piedmont avenue. In a surveillance image released by the police, she is wearing a dark t-shirt and pants and is walking with a medium-sized black dog.

The murder has left the people who use the park shaken and disturbed. The Midtown Neighborhood Alliance said additional patrols will be added to the park starting Wednesday night.

The woman’s body was the first to be found in a metro Atlanta park on Wednesday.

Hours later, a person taking a morning walk discovered a young woman who had also been murdered, under a tree in Yellow River Park, near Stone Mountain, according to Gwinnett County Police.

Police investigators also investigate this second murder of a woman in an Atlanta area park ..
