The legendary Honduran footballer Porfirio Armando “Cañón” Betancourt died this Wednesday after a complication caused by the COVID – 19.
Betancourt was infected with the virus about a month ago , like his wife Dilma Ponce. This brought strong consequences on his body and finally died in the morning in a clinical center in San Pedro Sula .

“Cañón” was a World Cup winner in Spain 1982. To date, seven of the 21 have died who represented their team in the most important football competition.
The player was a reference in the Cervecería Hondureña club of the Major League. Thanks to his excellent skill with the ball, he was selected for the Puerto Rico Youth World Cup 1976, where he played with Hugo Sánchez , according to information from TUDN.

Betancourt was the best player of the season 1981 from the University League in Missouri, where he also graduated from administration.
