Slipknot founding drummer Joey Jordison dies at 46

The former drummer of the American heavy metal band Slipknot, Joey Jordison, passed away this Monday at 46 years, as confirmed by his family.

In a statement, Jordison’s family said that the musician “died peacefully in his sleep.”

They did not reveal the cause of his death, but said that his death leaves them “with an empty heart and an indescribable pain .

Jordison was one of the original members of Slipknot, band founded in 1995 along with percussionist Shawn Crahan and bassist Paul Gray.

The The group released a successful self-titled debut album four years later.

The band sold millions of albums worldwide, achieved success on the US major charts and won a Grammy.

Jordison was part of the group until 2013 . In later years, he revealed that he dropped out of training after he was diagnosed with transverse myelitis , a form of multiple sclerosis.

Born as Nathan Jonas Jordison in 1975 in Des Moines, Iowa, (USA), Jordison said his parents bought him his first battery at age eight.

He grew up playing music and joined a project called The Pale Ones in 1995, which would eventually become Slipknot.

Jordison also had success with other bands, including Murderdolls, and performed with other well-known bands such as Metallica, Korn, and Rob Zombie.

His death comes a little over a decade later. of the founding member Paul Gray , who died from an overdose of morphine in 2010 .

Fans and musicians paid tribute to Jordison on social media following the news of his death.

Corey Taylor, the lead singer of Slipknot, posted a black photo on his social media after the news of Jordison’s death was known, as did Crahan.

The singer of Skunk Anansie , Skin , said Jordison helped form “one of the fiercest and most entertaining bands we’ve ever played with.”

On Facebook, Metallica put “RIP, bro”, while the band American rock Papa Roach tweeted: “We love you, bro.”

Serj Tankian, of System of a Down, described it as “ an amazing drummer and a fantastic guy. ”

Meat Heafy , frontman of heavy metal band Orlanda Trivium, said that the late drummer “changed the perception of heavy music on the planet.”

His bandmate, drummer Alex Bent , said he was speechless at the news.

“I owe a lot to Joey Jordison and I could never imagine being where I am today without his influence,” she wrote.

“An absolute game-changing legend not only for drums, but for metal music as a whole,” added popular metal YouTuber Nik Nocturnal .

The singer-songwriter Frank Turner defined Jordison as an “incredible musician”.
