HOUSTON – A 25 year old man was arrested for having shot a transgender woman he met using an app to find a partner, according to authorities.
The victim said that she is a victim of a hate crime .
The incident occurred in May. The victim, who has not been identified to protect her identity, told police that she went to an appointment after meeting Eric Aguillión online on the site “Meetup” .
The first date in person, according to the victim, was cordial and they agreed to see each other again.
On May 7, according to the victim, Aguillión went to the apartment of the victim and after having had sexual intercourse began to have a strong argument .
“He (Aguillión) said that I had not told him that I was transgender. I’m sure I told him and of course he realized when he touched me between my legs, “said the victim in an interview with KHOU 11 Houston .
During the altercation, Aguillión pulled out a gun and shot the victim.
“They say I’m very lucky to be alive,” added the victim.
The bullet caused severe damage to the victim’s back to the extent that she is paralyzed and the Doctors have not been able to tell you for sure if you will be able to walk again.
Aguillión has been arrested and the victim asks for justice.
“I am confident that I will walk again and I am trying to maintain a positive attitude,” said the victim .
Aguillión faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was posted a bond of $ 30,000 Dollars. His lawyer assures that Aguillión was attacked when he tried to leave the apartment the night of the shooting.
The lawyer said that it is not a hate crime, that his client just wanted to leave the place and that he used lethal force to protect himself.
