The workers of the city of Los Angeles must present vaccination certificates in their places of employment or they will have to show negative tests to the coronavirus every week, authorities of the metropolis announced.

This announcement, made Tuesday afternoon, came a day after Councilmember Mark Ridley-Thomas raised that he was going to file a motion this Wednesday to demand that workers municipalities were vaccinated against COVID – 19 .

The provision, presented by the mayor Eric Garcetti and the president of the City Council, Nury Martínez , indicate that city employees must present proof that they are vaccinated before their respective human resources offices, and in If not, they will have to teach each se test negative for coronavirus.

“The fourth wave (of the pandemic) is here, and the choice for Angelenos could not be clearer: get vaccinated or have COVID – 10 ”, expressed Garcetti.

Vaccination is not mandatory for Los Angeles workers

This determination does not establish an obligation for municipal employees to be vaccinated by leaving the opportunity to present proof of tests to the coronavirus with negative results each week.

The bosses department will have to verify and follow up on the vaccination status of the employees under their charge and send reports to the Personnel Department with all the information.

According to data provided by the authorities, about 72% of municipal workers are already vaccinated .

Similar decision as the California government

The position just taken by the authorities of the city of Los Angeles is paired with the decision of the government of California , which last Monday reported that it will request vaccination certificates from its employees and health sector workers.

It is expected that next week in California will start the vaccination verification program for its employees, while for health workers the 23 of August.

Last week, Pasadena became the first city of southern C alifornia in requiring its workers to be duly immunized against COVID – 10.

This Tuesday, the mayor of Long Beach, Robert García, reported that this city would implement measures similar to those announced by the California government , for which it will require its municipal workers showing vaccination certificates or proof of negative coronavirus test results weekly.

In recent weeks, Los Angeles County has filed a increase in daily COVID cases – 19. This Tuesday, the health authorities reported 2, 067 new cases and 825 people hospitalized for this disease.
