Julio Mayora gave Venezuela its first medal at Tokyo 2020 and celebrated in an iconic way

The weightlifting gave Venezuela its first medal at the Olympic Games 2020 this Wednesday at the Tokyo International Forum. Julio Rubén Mayora Pernía won the silver medal in the category of 73 kg when lifting a total of 346 kg, alone surpassed by the Chinese SHI Zhiyong.

Mayora is a native of Maiquetía, La Guaira, Venezuela, and came from sweeping its Olympic cycle by winning gold medals in the Bolivarian, South American, and Central American Games and the Caribbean and in the Pan American Games. He went to Tokyo in search of glory and reached it.

In start mode he lifted 131 kg, 154 kg and 156 kg to go second in the clean and jerk. All his movements were valid and effective to escort SHI. After 15 minutes of rest went to the second process to secure your medal.

Already in clean and jerk he lifted 186 kg in his first attempt and in the second he ascended to the Tokyo sky about 190 kg to secure your silver medal. In the last attempt he asked to lift 199 kg to look for the gold, but could not execute.

“First of all, I thanked God and all the people of Venezuela for all the support and all the energy they gave me. Here we are, bringing joy to the people of Venezuela ”, declared Julio Mayora to the Venezuelan Olympic Committee.

His celebration was iconic, because by not raising the 199 kg that he ordered at the end I already knew that he was going to hang the silver one. He performed a backward somersault to celebrate his conquest with those present. A movement that excited Venezuelans on social networks.
