Suspect arrested in shooting in which Rite Aid employee died

A suspect involved in the shooting in which a Rite Aid employee died was arrested, the past 15 July at Glassell Park, authorities reported.

Anthony Lemus, of 20 years, he was accused of murder after surrendering to 7: 45 pm this Monday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Suspect was reported to be under arrest and bail of $ 2 was set, 000, 000.

Last 15 July, Rite Aid employee Miguel Peñaloza of 36 years, died after facing two people who entered the establishment located in the block 4000 of Eagle Rock Boulevard. Reports indicate that Peñaloza confronted them when the two individuals tried to leave the store with two cases of beer without paying.

In the incident there was a brief fight before one of the individuals shot Peñaloza, who died at the scene. Both suspects subsequently fled .

The LAPD did not provide further details on the second suspect or if Lemus was the person who shot Peñaloza in the events of 15 July.

Peñaloza was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local employee union 770 .

Peñaloza’s colleagues had declared that Miguel had plans to leave his job and that he had two jobs to support his parents.

The union had denounced that, for months, its members were concerned about the lack of security in the store.

“No person should fear for their lives while shopping or working in a store. a, ”the union said in a statement after the events.

Local 770 reported that Rite Aid was had refused to offer adequate working conditions to its employees, putting profits ahead of safety.
