The president reaffirmed his position against the embargo, as he had already stated a day after

unprecedented protests on the island against the Government of Miguel Díaz-Canel, the 11 of July.

Although he stated that “ Relations with the United States are very good “, reiterated the call he made this Monday to President Joe Biden to reconsider the embargo.

I am sure that the United States Government will give a positive answer because a policy of this type is not convenient, we can have differences, but you cannot put hunger and disease on a people, ”he said.

Questioned by alleged reprisals from Washington, López Obrador ruled out sanctions.

“No, because we are an independent, free, sovereign country and we are acting that way,” he asserted.

Cuba suffers the largest social mobilization of this century amid a health and economic crisis aggravated by the covid – 19.

Since the outbreak of the protests, López Obrador’s position has been to ask for the end of the embargo and to support President Díaz-Canel.

“Yes there is communication and I received a letter from him explaining the difficult situation due to the blockade,” he revealed this Tuesday.

The Government Mexico has sent boats with food, medical supplies and oxygen to the island. Although he did not specify how many batches he has sent in total, López Obrador reported that one ship would leave this day and one more on Wednesday.

“(The blockade ) It has nothing to do with the fraternity that should exist among the peoples of the world, because of this blockade it is difficult for them to buy food, provisions, oxygen, “justified the president.
