For those who are waking up, the good news reached the bed and not exactly the cardboard. Alejandra Valencia and Luis Álvarez managed to give the first joy to the Aztec country in these very young Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Mexican duo managed to beat the Turkish couple. Yasemin Anagoz and Mete Gazoz were defeated 6-2 at Yumenoshima Park . This Aztec victory allowed them to get on the podium in this edition of the Olympic Games.

Without a doubt, this medal will not be one more. First marks the beginning of achievements in a sporting event in which great expectations have been generated ; second, this medal represents the number 70 in the history of Mexican sport at the Olympic Games . This is the third medal awarded by archery, the last was in London 2012 with the silver of Mariana Avitia.

A Mexican represented the Netherlands and won silver

Interestingly, in this same discipline, it can be said that another Aztec managed to hang a medal. Gabriela Bayardo won the silver medal in archery, by mixed teams.

The ironic of Bayardo is that had already competed in other tournaments representing the Mexican flag . However, in 2017 got married and that motivated her to change her nationality . In this sense, Gabriela Schloesser Bayardo , born in Tijuana, but representing the Netherlands, became a Tokyo Olympic medalist 2020.
