Los Angeles residents affected by fireworks explosion will receive $ 2,000

A Los Angeles non-profit organization announced that 26 families affected by last month’s fireworks explosion in South-Central Los Angeles will receive a $ 2 grant, 000 dollars in cash.

The announcement of the payments was made together with the Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilor Curren Price, who said that the money will come out of the organization Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles .

Multiple residents suffered damage in their houses and vehicles. The explosion left 17 injured, most of them of them LAPD officers.

“Nothing can erase the trauma that shook the lives of these families, but we can cheer them up a bit while more help arrives” , Garcetti said, noting that the funds are just a quick measure to mitigate the effects of the explosion on harmed neighbors.

The shocking incident occurred on the afternoon of 30 June on the street 27 near San Pedro Street when a Los Angeles Police Department trailer it did not withstand the powerful detonation planned by the LAPD’s bomb squad .

The Police had confiscated several tons of illegal fireworks dangerously stored in a house. A Hispanic man was arrested on federal charges for trafficking and storing merchandise purchased in Nevada.

This week federal authorities said that after completing their investigation it was concluded that the LAPD bomb squad significantly underestimated the weight of explosive material that was detonated in the trailer.
