Person shot in Hollywood by police had a lighter with a pistol-shaped handle

The person who was shot by the police last week on the Hollywood Walk of Fame had a lighter with a pistol as a handle , the Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore reported on Tuesday.

Initially, the Los Angeles Police Department had reported that an unidentified man in the incident that occurred last Thursday had a replica of a pistol.

Under the new state law, the California Attorney General’s Office is investigating the details of the Hollywood shooting.

The events occurred at 11: 20 am last Thursday , on the 2021 block of Hollywood Boulevard, east of Highland Ave., when a report was received by the Police Department denouncing the presence of an individual carrying a pistol .

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers were pointed by the man with the lighter in the form .

Los Angeles Police released photos of the incident that showed said person pointing at officers with what was believed to be a weapon.

An element shot the man, who was taken to a hospital where he was later declared dead , according to the report of Moore.

A client of a nearby establishment was injured in the leg, mentioned the Chief of Police.

Prosecutor’s Office conducts its own investigation into the LAPD shooting in Hollywood

In a statement, the attorney general Rob Bonta stated that their hearts went out to everyone involved in the incident.

“As required, the California Department of Justice took immediate steps to initiate our investigation that will ultimately lead to an independent review of that police shooting,” Bonta noted.

The law entered into force on July 1 . Bonta participated as a co-author of the legislation while serving in the Assembly.

“As we work to collect all the facts, I am grateful to the LAPD for their prompt collaboration and prompt, committed efforts to work with us on the ground, ”said the attorney general.

Bonta added that they will take all steps necessary to complete a full investigation , with a thorough and impartial review.

“Now, more than ever, we must work together in the spirit of this new law to build and maintain trust in our criminal justice system for all of our communities,” he said.

Last year, the legislation was adopted amid calls from leaders and civil rights activists for greater oversight and accountability in shootings involving police officers and in which unarmed civilians die.
