Sad news mourns Uruguay since this Saturday, after it became known that the soccer player Williams Martínez of the Villa Teresa team took his own life.
The player of 38 was playing the second division opening tournament, but ll he had several dates of inactivity, after he was diagnosed with COVID – 19 , last 23 June.
Paradoxically, the death of the player was registered on the same day that Uruguay commemorates the National Day for the Prevention of Suicide.

Faced with the unfortunate event, the Uruguayan Football Association decided to suspend the matches of the Apertura Tournament out of respect for Martínez’s memory.
“In accordance with the resolution of the Uruguayan Mutual of Professional Footballers , which requests the suspension of the remainder of the disputed date as a result of the death of the player Williams Martinez, the Executive Board resolves to suspend the pending matches of the 11 to the Opening Tournament Stage ”, the association published through its Twitter account.

So far it is unknown when the eleventh date of the tournament will resume , although it is expected to be next week.
Martínez joined the ranks of Defensor Sporting, Club Ferrocarril Oeste, West Bromwich, and currently Villa Teresa.
