Lyft will resume ridesharing after suspending them for 16 months

Lyft will resume the rideshare offering for the first time since the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, the company reported in a blog post.

In March 2020, both Lyft and its rival Uber suspended services that allow passengers to carpool to nearby destinations as part of their COVID response – 19. Both technology companies suspended hundreds of workers and thousands of drivers were affected by the health contingency .

Lyft said it will resume offering ridesharing in Philadelphia, Chicago and Denver starting Monday and other cities will be added in the coming months.

“Ridesharing is back and better than ever,” the company said in the post. “As cities across the country continue to reopen, we are helping communities move again and providing more opportunities for drivers to win by reintroducing our lowest-cost travel option.”

The company said it has added new features to the shared rides, and now you can book shared rides in advance. All passengers and drivers must wear masks as a protective measure . Shared trips will be limited to two passengers in total , and Front and center seats must remain empty.

Uber’s shared service, Uber Pool, remains suspended in the United States so far.
