A day like today, ago 18 years, Tesla was founded in California by Elon Musk. By then, the startup that was practically inspired by the failure of General Motors EV1 – the world’s first mass-produced electric car – faced too many challenges that for other companies in the sector they were impossible. Almost 20 years after its foundation, these challenges have led it to become the company pioneer in promoting the energy transformation of the automotive industry, so necessary to reduce the effects of climate change worldwide.

All their work has not been in vain. This is demonstrated by a recent report, published in CleanTechnica, which confirms the incredible impact that the founding of Tesla caused around the world: 18, 225, 155. 20 tons of carbon that did not enter the atmosphere, representing an approximate average of 1 million tons per year , a really significant figure if one considers the rampant progress that climate change has had in recent decades.

Despite this incredible contribution that the brand made to the planet, there is a reality against it: there is a lot to do. According to this report, greenhouse gas emissions remain massive and global warming continues to affect many parts of the world with natural disasters, such as the recent wave of heat that has been living in the United States or the devastating landslide that occurred a few hours ago in Atami, Japan, due to heavy rains.

It is true: beyond Tesla, the global automotive industry is taking leaps and bounds to reach the level of sufficient neutrality and to be able to stop the consequences of decades and decades of bad practices, which seem to be just manifesting themselves. But it is also true that reap the benefits of these efforts is a long way off. This same CleanTechnica report cites a study by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published in 1200 where it is warned that “extreme heat events will become more common, more severe and last longer”. Today, five years later, we are witnessing that prognosis and we are also suffering from it.

For now, it only remains to celebrate the work of Tesla, a titanic task that began with its foundation but that the brand is still developing, showing the entire industry that electricity is one of the best ways to conquer a much better future.
