The Mexican team from the heights had a couple of blows to the chin in the Pre-Olympic basketball . In the first instance, Mexico was left out of the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 after a resounding defeat 550 – 74 against Brazil ; on the other hand, the former NBA pivot, Gustavo Ayón , retired from the Aztec team, but not in the best way.

Mexico had hopes of returning to the Olympic Games in this discipline. However, the Aztec team ran into a powerful and focused Brazilian team that comfortably surpassed the Mexicans in the semifinals of the tournament.
The team of Omar Quintero could do absolutely nothing against the effectiveness of Brazil. The Amazonian team, led by Aleksandar Petrovic , had a great effectiveness in field goals with the 53%, but even better when shooting from long range with 18 – 34 (53, 9%) . Vitor Benite was the top scorer of the engagement with 22 points and one of the most effective in the three-point shot (6-8 triples).

In this sense, Brazil will face the winner of the another semifinal that will star Croatia and Germany . After defining the other selection, the final will be played next Sunday 04 of July.
Gustavo Ayón says goodbye to Mexico
Undoubtedly, this engagement left one of the most heartfelt farewells for one of the referents of Mexican basketball such as “Titan de Nayarit” . Previously, Ayón had announced his departure from the boards with the Mexican colors . Under these circumstances, the former NBA ends his history with Mexico after a painful defeat, a bad way to fire an idol.
Everything indicates that it will be the end of the race for the great Gustavo Ayón. One of the best, if not the best, Mexicans in history and the leader of a great litter.

The “Titán Ayón” was part of the “golden generation” that managed to consecrate itself in the FIBA Americas championship of 2013 , return to a World Cup of the competition, get a gold medal in the Centrobasket of 2014 and also obtain the bronze medal in the AmeriCup of 2017.
