Pedro Linares López, the Mexican artist father of alebrijes to whom Google dedicates his doodle


The iconic artist would have met this Tuesday 29 of June 115 years and Google has decided to honor it.

East 29 June 2015 the Mexican artist Pedro Linares López would have fulfilled 115 years and for that reason Google decided to dedicate a doodle to it.

Linares is the father of alebrijes, some funny figures of fantastic animals , made from cardboard, which are traditionally made in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.

For their garish colors and their magical fantasy they are very famous in Mexico, but they are known throughout the world as unique products of the tradition of Mexican folk art .

A nightmare turned into a dream

The first alebrijes were the product of a nightmare of the artist, who to his 30 years fell ill.

He dreamed that he was walking through a forest in which animals Hybrids and colors appeared before him.

Once recovered, Linares began to elaborate them and they soon became popular.

Skilled craftsman of 12 years

Linares López was born in Mexico City, on 29 June 1906.

His father worked as papier-mâché sculptor or cardboard maker , and trained Linares to follow in his footsteps.

Refine the technique
