President Biden’s administration may be considering electric vehicle battery recycling , according to some reports. This option, based on the circular economy pursued by many companies and countries, would make it possible to extract the components of those batteries that have reached their useful life to build new batteries, thus reducing the demand for materials such as lithium, copper or cobalt whose extraction It is not only related to ecological problems, but also social problems all over the world.

A few weeks ago, President Joe Biden gave details about his plan to electrify the United States from the Ford facility where now occurs the F – 150 Lightning, the all-electric version of the truck best-selling in the United States for more than 40 years. It did so just one day before the expected launch of this vehicle that has become a representation of the profound energy transformation that both the industry and the country are undergoing.

Then From this historic event, President Biden undertook a review of supply chains in the United States, with the intention of to strengthen them to increase their level of competitiveness with respect to China, the main producer of electric vehicles which, in addition , has become the most important supplier of this type of technology in the world. The main concern of the US government continues to be the shortage of semiconductor chips, a problem that has intensified under the effects of the COVID pandemic – 19, but that concern also extends to other areas such as batteries, another necessary element for the electrification of the country over which China has great advantage.

If this process is carried out, the US government would attack several fronts as it prepares for a future that has been predicted by President Biden ; a future where the United States reaches China in the production levels of electric vehicles and where, later, it surpasses it, positioning itself as the country that leads the change.

For now,

major efforts are being made in terms of infrastructure, thanks to a mega-investment by the government to increase the number of production facilities and also EVgo public charging stations. These public charging stations will join in a vast network with those of Electrify America, a private company, created by Volkswagen, which already owns a large number of charging points throughout the country, and those of 7-Eleven, the famous chain of convenience stores that also intend to offer this service in their establishments in the United States and Canada.
