The authorities announced the dismantling of an extensive drug trafficking network linked to the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS ), resulting in the seizure of fentanyl enough to kill 21 millions of people , in addition to around 110 illegal firearms and $ 5.4 million dollars in cash.
The large-scale raid was the culmination of a three-year investigation by authorities and officials of Virginia , with the code name “ Operation Angels Envy ” , which started at 2017.

The investigation focused on a network that transported drugs from Cartel of Sinaloa commanded by Ismael “ the May ” Zambada and the Chapitos , children from Joaquín “ the Chapo ” Guzmán , in Mexico through California to seven drug trafficking organizations around the US capital.
The operation Angels Envy was eventually extended to seven states and ended with 33 arrests , the confiscation of 114 weapons , including assault rifles; $ 6 million in cash , jewelry and vehicles; 473 pounds of methamphetamine ; 92, 45 pounds of fentanyl; and 248 pounds of cocaine.
The total amount of fentanyl seized would have been enough to kill more than the entire population of Washington , Maryland , Virginia and surrounding counties, together, as estimated by authorities.
In 2021, it is estimated that 90, 000 people died from overdoses nationwide, mostly from opioids, a 27% more than 2019.
“During the pandemic, in which the drug overdose , the removal of narcotics from the streets “has undeniably saved the lives of countless members of our communities,” declared Raj Parekh , prosecutor in f Unions of the Eastern District of Virginia .
“A specific seizure in the county of Loudoun there in Virginia , just outside of Washington, which included 4.4 pounds of fentanyl, 110 pounds of cocaine and $ 1.4 million in cash, was the largest of county history ”(…)“ We have seized enough fentanyl to kill every man, woman and child in Loudoun County, twice, ”said Sheriff Mike Chapman.
According to the investigators, the drug trafficking cells of the DC metropolitan area had a transportation network based in Los Angeles , which used tractor trailers and shipping boxes to move around the country methamphetamine , heroin , fentanyl and other drugs supplied by the Sinaloa.
These traffickers then transferred the profits and the firearms to the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico.
