Fast & Furious 9 had been getting good reception in China, however recent comments by John Cena have hit him hard . In an interview, the fighter referred to Taiwan as a country, a political conflict that has given much to talk about internationally. Now fans of the saga in China expressed their displeasure and it was reflected in the numbers.

The premiere of the ninth installment of the film starring Vin Diesel was a success at the Chinese box office, managing to raise $ 137 millions in a few days, however after Cena’s words movie views dropped to % , as reported by the media The Hollywood Reporter.

A few weeks ago the actor did one of the Weibo platform to offer a public apology for a comment he made in an interview. In the clip, the actor from 54 years assured that he made a mistake due to the large amount of information he received.

His words were said in a very fluent Mandarin Chinese, but the reception of the users was not the best because many criticized that he did not retract what was said.

Among some reactions the actor received were those that asked him to say in Chinese that Taiwan was not a country. On the other hand, the apologies that Cena offered to China were also mocked in the United States, because many described the actor as a “coward.”

So far none of the other protagonists has spoken out about the controversy unleashed by Cena in China.

The truth is that this is a blow to the car franchise . China is known to be one of the priority markets in the saga and its importance had become even greater due to the coronavirus pandemic that hit the entertainment world heavily.

The production premiere in China is currently slightly above Hobbs & Shaw , which starred Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

The film titled F9 will hit US theaters next 26 of June and it will be until July 2 that fans in Mexico will be able to see it, as in Spain.
