Tom Cruise and the trick behind the iconic 'Mission Impossible' scene


The action actor is famous for many movies, however the secret agent franchise scene is one of his most remembered … and it was almost left out of the film because it did not turn out as planned

Tom Cruise is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood , with his iconic action films he has managed to gain an important place among the most famous personalities in the industry and without a doubt one of the productions that gave him his place was Mission Impossible , franchise that continues to this day.

The actor of 58 years gave strong competition to James Bond in the year 1996, when the first installment of the saga was released. In the story, Cruise gave life to the agent Ethan Hunt who had the mission of to your agency . And even though the film has 100 minutes of pure adrenaline, it was a specific scene that went down in history: that of the theft of the vault.

In that shot you can see a young Cruise in the role of the special agent, who must sneak into the CIA offices to look for evidence that can clear his name. At one point the plan goes wrong and the agent is suspended a few centimeters from touching the ground and being detected.

Despite what you might think, recording this scene was not easy at all because the actor could not get suspended , this was revealed by himself in a series of special interviews that he gave for the anniversary Blu-ray of the film.

Cruise confessed that the time to shoot the scene was running out and he couldn’t get it to work, so he had an idea to save the scene. He asked that they put some coins inside his shoes to make a counterweight and thus be able to be perfectly balanced.

According to what the actor relates, had it not been for that trick the scene would have had to be recorded by a stuntman or even deleted .

“Suddenly I got down on the ground and didn’t touch it,” said the actor, “he was holding me, holding me and I was sweating and everything kept rolling.”

Tom Cruise has always been known for filming his own action scenes. Fortunately he was able to make this work because to this day it is one of the most remembered of the franchise and has been parodied repeatedly.

The saga plans to release a seventh installment, for his part the actor is about to launch Top Gun: Maverick , sequel to another of his iconic films. It was originally planned to be released in July of 2019, however it was delayed to June 2020 and due to the coronavirus pandemic it was finally set for November of this year .
