ICE suspends immigrant arrests in two counties amid abuse investigation

The administration of President Joe Biden stopped arresting immigrants in a couple of county jails facing federal investigations in Georgia and Massachusetts.

This is reported The Washington Post , which adds that this decision is part of a broader review of the way prisons operate where they are sends undocumented immigrants.

The report quotes the Secretary of National Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, who would have issued the order to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immediately terminating your contract with the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office in Massachusetts .

Detainees will be transferred to another location, according to documents cited by the Post.

Mayorkas also ordered ICE to terminate its contract with Irwin County in rural Georgia.

“Both county jails are also under investigation. to the allegations of abuses against immigrants ”, indicates the report. “(There are) accusations that remain open and unsolved and those that were taken into account in the Mayorkas decision,” a source would have told the Post.
